Fast Five" 1963 Corvette GranSport replica for sale.

The "Wild Speed" franchise may have started with tuner cars, but by the time "Wild Speed" was released in 2011, even cars like this 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport replica had joined the series.

First spotted by Motor1, this Grand Sport replica made a brief appearance in "Fast Five." It was one of several cars stolen from a running train by the protagonists, which fell off a cliff shortly after and was ruined. Still, the Grand Sport is a bona fide movie car, and a cool one at that.

The original Grand Sport was a heavily modified C2 Corvette designed for racing, hence the numerous cooling ducts, bulging fender flares, and fixed headlights. 2 convertibles and 3 coupes were built, and they were well received enough that Chevrolet revived the Grand Sport name for its recent Corvette variant.

The replica was built by Mongoose Motorsports under license from General Motors. According to the listing, it has a custom tubular chassis with C4 Corvette suspension and a GM Performance 5.7-liter V-8 crate engine producing 380 horsepower. It also has an automatic transmission, which is not unusual for a movie car, as it makes it easier to get around on set.

This is one of only three Grand Sport replicas in existence, and according to the exhibit, it was used as a "hero car" for close-up filming. In other words, this car was most likely used on screen and is the closest in appearance to what you see on screen. Multiple cars are typically used in filmmaking, and they are built to look and function as much as needed for a particular scene. For example, a car used for a stunt might not have a complete interior because it will not be shown in a given shot.

Auction houses expect the movie car to sell for $95,000 to $100,000, while Mongoose advertises the new car (without the movie pedigree) for "under $100,000." In any case, the "Fast Five" car should be much cheaper than one of the five original Grand Sports worth seven figures.
