GMC explores the Overland with the Canyon AT4 concept.

Forget van life - GMC has a Canyon AT4 that's comfortable on any terrain.

The concept, dubbed the Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX, was created to showcase the potential of the canyon platform and inspire those thinking of turning their canyon into an overlanding tool. [The concept premiered Friday at Overland Expo Mountain West 2021 in Loveland, Colorado.

The concept features off-road-tuned suspension, an Eaton G80 locking rear differential, 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires, and a transfer case guard plate. It was designed as a Canyon AT4.

GMC designers then raised the suspension and added 33-inch BFGoodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires on 17-inch AEV Crestone rims. This modification gave the vehicle a 27.7-degree angle of entry, 10.0 inches of minimum ground clearance, and 32.1 inches of submersible capability.

Wheel headlights with built-in lights, solar panels, a folding stove, windshield rails to protect the windshield from low-hanging branches, and the spare tire can be placed on the bed and tilted aside when access to the bed is needed. There are also useful attachments such as swivel mounts for spare tires. There are also tents and folding tents.

The Canyon's powertrain is a 3.6-liter V6 rated at 308 hp.

The AT4 package used in this concept is a new addition to the Canyon lineup for 2021. Buyers are also offered the Off-Road Performance Edition package, which adds some additional options including a suspension leveling kit.
