The 2022 Rivian R1T and R1S have an EPA-estimated range of 300 miles.

EPA has released official range and efficiency ratings for the Rivian R1T electric pickup truck and R1S electric SUV.

The EPA gave the R1T a rating of 314 miles and the R1S 316 miles.

The R1T is rated at 73 MPGe and 332 miles in city driving and 65 MPGe and 293 miles in highway driving; the R1S is rated at 74 MPGe in city driving and 66 MPGe in highway driving, equivalent to 331 miles in city driving and 296 miles in highway driving

The range is approximately 331 miles in city driving and 296 miles in highway driving.

While the aerodynamic advantage on the highway would seem to favor the R1S, the R1T's advantage in the city is probably due to a slight weight advantage.

The ratings also indicate that the Rivian truck does not match the efficiency of, say, the Tesla Model X. However, neither vehicle has the towing or off-road capabilities that Rivian promises.

Also, both vehicles should be more energy efficient than the GMC Hummer EV and would likely be classified as Class 3, skipping the EPA's range and efficiency ratings entirely.

Note that these ratings are based on Rivian's 135 kwh "Large Pack," while the 180 kwh "Max Pack" will be added to the lineup next year and will carry a $10,000 premium. Rivian says the pack will give both trucks a range of 400 miles. A smaller, entry-level pack is also in the planning stages.

After some delays, Rivian has announced that deliveries will begin this month, with R1S deliveries to follow shortly thereafter. The company is also believed to be working on an initial public offering.
