Porsche Restomodder plans to install a flat-six supercharger on the air-cooled 911.

Porsche 911s typically rely on turbochargers to boost engine performance, but Theon Design has gone a different route with its latest 911 restomod.

The British firm this week released the first details about the company's supercharged 3.6-liter flat-six. The engine is based on an air-cooled Porsche flat-six rebuilt by Theon and fitted with a Rotrex supercharger. The engine also features a water-methanol injection system, which cools the fill air in the cylinders to prevent detonation. Such a system also helps to increase power.

Theon lists the supercharged engine's peak power output at 450 hp and maximum torque at 368 lb-ft. If buyers want to stick with naturally aspirated power, Theon offers options here as well. Buyers can choose from naturally aspirated flat-six engines with displacements of 3.6, 3.8, and 4.0 liters.

The first application of the supercharged engine was a 964-generation 911 restomod commissioned by a Belgian customer. The customer chose the aquamarine shade that was used in the Porsche 356 in the 1950s, with some lightweight modifications.

Also new to the car was a suspension setup with active dampers developed in partnership with a company called TracTive. A switch located in the cabin allows the driver to adjust the level of damping according to the current driving conditions.

As with all Theon builds, the car was first stripped to the bare metal and then rebuilt to what the company describes as better than OEM standards. A full carbon fiber body can also be built upon customer request.
