Spy shots of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE 63: mid-cycle update planned.

Mercedes-Benz AMG engineers were spotted testing an updated version of the GLE 63.

The current Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class was introduced in 2019 as a 2020 model year, but in Mercedes tradition, it should soon receive a mid-cycle update. We should see the updated range arrive in 2023 as the 2024 model.

Prototypes of updated versions of the regular GLE class and the sporty GLE 53, which is also an AMG, have already been spotted.

The updates are likely to be minor, at least as far as styling is concerned. The camouflage gear on this updated GLE 63 prototype suggests that the lights at both ends will be slightly tweaked. The front mask also appears to be slightly redesigned.

The interior should also receive an update, and Mercedes will likely include the latest version of its infotainment system. A look inside this prototype also reveals a newly designed steering wheel.

It is not clear what AMG has planned for the powertrain, but expect no real changes to the current 4.0-liter V-8 twin-turbo and mild hybrid combo; AMG is rolling out a new V-8-based plug-in hybrid powertrain. but this particular prototype has no charging ports in sight.

The current GLE 63 delivers 571 hp in the standard version and 603 hp in the spicier GLE 63S version. In both cases, a mild hybrid setup can temporarily boost power by 21 hp. Note that only the GLE 63S is currently offered in the U.S. market.

The GLE-Class is one of Mercedes' best sellers; ignoring 2020 totals, the mid-size SUV sells an average of about 50,000 units per year in the U.S. alone; production of all GLE-Class models, including the AMG, takes place exclusively at Mercedes' plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. where production takes place.
