Spy shots of the 2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLE 53 Coupe: minor updates announced.

Mercedes-Benz's current GLE-Class coupe has just been introduced as a 2021 model, but Mercedes-Benz is already testing an updated version.

The latest spy shots show a prototype of the updated version of the AMG GLE 53 coupe, which should debut later this year or early next year along with updated versions of the GLE-Class coupe and AMG GLE 63 coupe. Updated versions of the non-coupé GLE-Class should also appear around that time.

Sales should begin during 2023, with the updated series appearing as a 2024 model year.

The updates are likely to be minor, and the prototype's camouflage gear suggests that there will be some tweaks to the front mask and new light interiors at both ends.

The interior should also receive an update, and Mercedes will likely feature the latest version of its infotainment system, possibly with a larger screen. The steering wheel will also likely be redesigned.

The powertrain is not likely to change. The current GLE 53 coupe is powered by a mild hybrid system consisting of a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline 6-cylinder and one electric motor. The inline 6-cylinder turbocharger alone produces 429 hp and 384 lb-ft, while the electric motor, which also serves as the engine starter, produces up to 21 hp and 184 lb-ft for short periods of time A 9-speed automatic and all-wheel drive are part of the package.

The GLE-Class is one of Mercedes' best sellers; ignoring the 2020 pandemic-affected tally, the mid-size SUV sells an average of about 50,000 units per year in the U.S. alone.

Production of all GLE-Class models takes place exclusively at Mercedes' plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
