Ford is introducing a new GT Heritage Edition in honor of Holman Moody.

The Ford GT is nearing the end, at least for this generation, but before it heads down, we could see a few more special editions.

The hot Heritage Edition follows the GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition unveiled at the 2022 Chicago Auto Show last month.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based American race team campaigned three GT40s in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Ford finished one-two-three. One of those cars, Holman Moody's racing number 5, finished third; first and second were Shelby American's GT40s. Holman Moody, along with Shelby, also contributed to the development of the GT40's race-winning 7.0-liter V-8 engine.

Incidentally, the No. 5 GT40 was auctioned in 2018 and sold for $9,795,000.

From the teaser, Ford's modern tribute matches the gold and red livery that the No. 5 GT40 wore in the 1966 Le Mans race. And while the GT's twin-turbo 3.5-liter V-6 will remain unchanged, there should be a few special touches inside.

Ford plans to unveil the GT Holman Moody this spring. Its arrival will bring the total number of GT Heritage Editions to eight models. Ford has not revealed the number of production slots, but previous examples have been 50. Note that these cars will not increase the total 1,350 units Ford will build for this generation of GT supercars, which will end production in December.
