Jay Leno tests the Ferrari F50 again.
While he has no plans to add Ferraris to his vast collection, Jay Leno certainly appreciates a great Ferrari. His "Jay Leno's Garage" series has featured several of them, and the latest episode featured two exceptional examples.
The two Ferraris are both F50s, one red, the other yellow. Both are owned by Ferrari collector David Lee, who has owned the red car for years and recently added an even rarer yellow car to his collection. [288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo, and La Ferrari. Having collected all five of Ferrari's signature red cars, Lee now hopes to re-collect the five yellow cars.
That is not so easy, given the small number of cars originally ordered in yellow. For example, of the 349 F50s built by Ferrari in the mid-1990s, only 31 were finished in yellow.
Leno drives the yellow car in this latest episode, having previously driven Lee's red F50. He also drives Lee's collection of 288 GTOs, F40s, and Enzos, and we will likely see an episode in the not-too-distant future with Leno driving Lee's LaFerrari. Leno has also driven Lee's SF90 Stradale.
The F50 may not be the poster child on the wall like the early F40s or the new Enzo and LaFerrari models, but it remains a great performance machine and a work of art. Powered by a 4.7-liter V-12 engine derived from Formula One's V-12s, the F50's engine delivers 520 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual.
