Jeep unveils seven concepts for the 2022 Moab Easter Safari, including the new Wrangler EV

Jeep has given an early look at some of the concepts that will debut at the 2022 Easter Jeep Safari, April 9-17 in Moab, Utah.

Given that the Safari is all about off-roading, most of the concepts are based on the Wrangler and the related Gladiator pickup, but some are based on the new plug-in hybrid version of the Grand Cherokee. There is also a more powerful version of the electric Wrangler "Magneto" concept, which was first shown at last year's event.

Jeep Wrangler Magneto 2.0 Concept: Jeep demonstrated last year through the original Wrangler Magneto concept that electric Wranglers can handle rough roads. With version 2.0, Jeep has decided to take the performance even higher. Much higher: the 70-kilowatt-hour battery is still on board, separated into four units for even weight distribution, but with a corresponding increase in torque from the previous 285 hp and 273 lb-ft to 625 hp and 850 lb-ft. This means that the 0-60 mph time is now only 2 seconds.

The word Magneto is probably best known for the Marvel Comics character of the same name, whose etymology is used for an electric motor generator with a permanent magnet. Don't be surprised if this name is applied to the electric Wranglers that will line the showrooms in the future. Jeep aims to have electric options in all SUV segments by 2025, including the Wrangler segment. The first electric Jeep will appear next year.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk PHEV Concept: the Grand Cherokee got a plug-in hybrid option this spring in the form of the 4xe, and the electrified SUV was the basis for the Easter Jeep Safari concept. The concept's theme is overlanding, resulting in such conveniences as a roof rack, roof liner, rock rails, and 33-inch tires, as well as vinyl side graphics for protection from debris.

The powertrain remains unchanged, with a 2.0-liter inline-4 turbo and two motor generators. One of the motor generators replaces the engine's starter motor, while the other is integrated with the transmission (in this case, an 8-speed automatic). Maximum output is 375 hp and 470 lb-ft.

Jeep Rubicon 20th Anniversary Concept: Hard to believe that 20 years have passed since the Wrangler was given the Rubicon grade. Named after California's Rubicon Trail, the Wrangler Rubicon proved a hit when it was first introduced in the summer of 2002, offering buyers top-of-the-line off-road gear straight from the factory. The list included Dana 44 axles, front and rear lockers, disconnectable sway bars, rock rails, wheel flares, and 31-inch tires.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Rubicon, Jeep's Wrangler Concept was based on the Wrangler Rubicon 392 with a V-8 engine, a 2-inch lift kit, 17-inch beadlock compatible wheels, 37-inch tires, steel bumpers, a Warn winch, gold tow hooks, and a Rubicon 20th Anniversary decal on the hood.

Jeep D-Coder concept by JPP: Mopar, which offers a variety of parts for Jeep vehicles under the Jeep Performance Parts brand, was also tasked with developing several concepts for the Easter Jeep Safari. One of these is the Gladiator-based D-Coder, which is fitted with 35 parts from the Mopar catalog.

These items include a Gorilla Glass windshield, A-pillar mounting brackets, snorkel, cold air intake, cat-back exhaust, 2-inch lift kit with Fox shocks, 17-inch beadlock wheels with 37-inch tires and more.

Jeep Birdcage Concept by JPP: The second concept by Team Mopar is a Wrangler 4xe-based birdcage. Designed as an off-roader for the open country, it has a custom cover on the cowl area for when the windshield is removed.

Other features include a 2-inch lift with Fox shocks, a custom front bumper with integrated skid plate, aluminum taillight guard, 17-inch beadlock wheels with 37-inch tires, Rhino-Rack that can carry up to 600 lbs. cargo basket, and more.

Jeep Bob concept: one of the coolest concepts is the Gladiator-based Bob. The name comes from the bobbing trend of shortening the cargo bed of a pickup to improve its off-road launch angle. In this concept, an entire leg was removed and custom steel front and rear bumpers were installed to further improve approach and departure angles.

The concept is also highlighted by a mix of colors, including both gloss and matte finishes. In the interior, bright bedline floors and custom-trimmed seats create a flashy statement. A vented carbon hood adds a noteworthy performance look and ensures better airflow to the engine, in this case a Gladiator 3.0-liter V-6 diesel.

Jeep '41 Concept: this last concept pays homage to the original Willys MB, which served during World War II and was the inspiration for the modern Wrangler. 2-inch lift kit and 17-inch retro wheels with 35-inch tires ...

The exterior and wheels are painted in the same olive D.R.A.B. '41 Matte Green finish. The instrument panel inserts are also painted in D.R.A.B. '41 Matte Green, with custom Willis retro graphics on the cluster. Contrasting the green is a tan soft top, with half doors added as a final retro touch.
