The official announcement of the Toyota Supra with manual transmission.
The question of whether the Toyota Supra will have a manual transmission has left enthusiasts guessing even before the current fifth-generation model (A90 for fans) debuts at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show.
Well, enthusiasts don't have to guess anymore, as Toyota finally confirmed on Friday that the Supra will and soon will have a manual transmission.
According to Toyota, the manual transmission will be a "tailor-made" solution and may not be borrowed from BMW's parts bin like the current 8-speed automatic. Recall that the Supra's platform is twinned with the BMW Z4, and both the four- and six-cylinder engines are BMW units, with manual transmissions paired to several cars from the German brand.
Toyota has not indicated whether manuals will be available for both engines. However, given the high adoption rate of manual transmissions in enthusiast-oriented cars like the Porsche 911 GT3, it is likely that we will see them in the US.
Supras with manual transmissions will have a red "Supra" script badge instead of the standard black one.
Toyota said it will share more information in the coming weeks. It's good to see an automaker #GiveAShift.
