2022 Mercedes-Benz T-Class - premium minivan for city dwellers
Mercedes-Benz announced the redesign of its Citan light commercial van last summer, and this week unveiled the twin T-Class passenger version of the same van.
Neither version is scheduled to be introduced in the U.S., so local readers should not hold their breath. In Europe, the T-Class will be available soon, priced at less than 30,000 euros (about $31,695).
Like the Citan, the T-Class is based on the Renault Kangoo platform. It is 177 inches long and seats five, but a seven-passenger option with a longer wheelbase of nearly 195 inches is also available.
Standard features include 16-inch wheels, a 7-inch touchscreen for infotainment (including Apple Car Play and Android Auto), and a 5.5-inch screen in the instrument cluster. Many driver-assistance features are also standard, including automatic emergency braking, blind-spot cross-traffic alert, and lane-keep assist.
The powertrain is shared with the Citan, with diesel and gasoline inline-4s available, the most powerful of which delivers 128 hp. The drive system is front-wheel drive, and transmissions include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual clutch.
An electric EQT will also be available later this year; details of the EQT will be announced closer to launch, but it is expected to have a range approaching 150 miles and can be recharged 10-80% in 40 minutes.
