A preview of the 2023 Volvo XC40 with a new design and a fully electrified powertrain lineup
Volvo's XC40 and related XC40 Recharge electric vehicles have been updated for the 2023 model year.
Both compact crossovers have styling changes, including new adaptive LED headlights with the same angular design as the 2022 C40 Recharge and a new front mask The XC40 Recharge also features an enclosed grille with a frameless design which should contribute to aerodynamics.
Other changes include new trim options for the cabin, new exterior colors and wheel patterns; an Android-based infotainment system (already available on the XC40 Recharge) is standard on all models; Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Play Store, and other popular Google apps are built in.
Starting with the 2023 model year, all Volvos will feature some form of electrification. For regular gas models, this means mild hybrid technology; specifications for the 2023 XC40 mild hybrid powertrain have not yet been announced.
The 2023 XC40 Recharge will be offered only as an electric crossover with a 402-hp dual-motor powertrain and a 78-kilowatt-hour battery with an EPA-approved range of 223 miles. Other markets can choose a single-motor powertrain with 227 hp. The single-motor option comes with a 69-kilowatt-hour battery.
The 2023 XC40 will go on sale in the summer. Pricing will be announced closer to launch, but as a guide, the 2022 XC40 will start at $35,195, which includes a $1,095 destination charge.
