2023 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban with Super Cruise for hands-free driving.

The 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban full-size SUVs will be the latest vehicles to feature General Motors' Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance system.

Chevrolet confirmed the availability of Super Cruise for the two SUVs in a press release Friday. Aside from a handful of new color options and a new grille option, it is the only update for the 2023 Tahoe and Suburban. The grille is black with "CHEVROLET" lettering and will be offered on LS, LT, RST, and Premier models.

Already available on the related Cadillac Escalade SUV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks, and some other GM models, Super Cruise accelerates and brakes on certain sections of pre-mapped highway, steering control. It also uses a driver monitoring system to prevent misuse and keep the driver's eyes focused on the road.

GM announced in March that a total of 22 vehicles will have some form of Super Cruise in the 2023 model year. It also announced several updates to its pickup and SUV models, including car line change and trailer capabilities.

Owners of certain 2021 models will get the applicable features via over-the-air (OTA) software updates, while owners of older vehicles lacking GM's latest electric architecture will miss out.

In 2023, GM will introduce a more advanced system called Ultra Cruise.

Whereas Super Cruise is limited to about 200,000 miles of well-mapped highways in the U.S. and Canada, Ultra Cruise will be a "door-to-door" system that will operate on all paved public roads in the U.S. and Canada and allow hands-free operation for 95% of driving GM claims. However, it would require monitoring similar to Super Cruise and would remain in the realm of driver assistance systems rather than autonomous driving.

Meanwhile, Tahoe and Suburban will introduce Super Cruise at the same time that Ford is rolling out its Blue Cruise system on full-size SUVs and pickup trucks such as the F-150 and Expedition. 2022 Lincoln Navigator will have the same system but was renamed Active Glide.
