AMG is turning 55 years old and has introduced the Mercedes-AMG CLA45 Edition 55 for 2023.
Mercedes-AMG on Thursday unveiled an "Edition 55" model to celebrate AMG's 55th anniversary: the 2023 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 Edition 55 will land in the U.S. later this year, with production limited to just 55 units.
Changes to this limited edition model begin with the AMG Aerodynamics Package, which adds a larger front splitter, additional flicks, a new rear spoiler, and new rear air deflector elements. Finished in gloss black, Mercedes claims that these additions improve driving characteristics at high speeds.
Other styling elements include black chrome tailpipes, badges, grille trim, exclusive 19-inch wheels, and silver chrome fuel filler caps. The only color available is Cosmos Black Metallic, with silver side graphics indicating the AMG logo.
The interior features two-tone red and black Nappa leather, a microfiber-covered steering wheel with "Edition 55" lettering and black 12 o'clock markings, and door sill panels with illuminated AMG logos, brushed aluminum trim. A car cover is also included.
No mention of mechanical changes, but the AMG CLA45 already boasts a powerful 2.0-liter turbo four that produces 382 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Mercedes accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.0 seconds and has an electronically controlled top speed of 155 mph.
The AMG CLA45 is the second Edition 55 model. In April, Mercedes introduced the AMG G63 Edition 55, also limited to 55 units for the U.S. market
. Both special editions commemorate AMG's independence in 1967; AMG specialized in tuning and racing Mercedes vehicles, but the two companies' full-scale collaboration began in 1990; AMG became a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes in 2005.

The performance division has adopted hybrid and all-electric powertrains as part of Mercedes' electrification strategy. In 2019, Mercedes also broke with its tradition of building AMG cars only in Affalterbach, Germany, and announced that some AMG models would be manufactured in China for the local market. announced that it will manufacture them in China for the local market.
