The BMW Alpina B3 will be introduced in 2023 with more power and technology.

One of the best Alpina's we are missing in the US is the B3, based on the BMW 3 Series.

Available in sedan and wagon body styles, the B3 is a great alternative to the BMW M3, especially for buyers looking for understated performance.

Based on the updated 2023 BMW 3 Series, Alpina engineers have tweaked the powertrain, added a few tweaks to the exterior along with Alpina's signature styling cues, and brushed up the interior for more luxury.

The centerpiece of the update is a more powerful 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder twin turbo. This engine is the same unit found in the M3, and here it delivers 488 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque, 0-62 mph in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 190 mph (compared to 3.7 seconds and 188 mph for the wagon). [The engine is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 350 hp and 538 lb-ft.

Both are equipped with an 8-speed automatic, and all-wheel drive is standard, as in the previous model. The transmission has an updated torque converter. As for the chassis, Alpina has set up its own steering system and several suspension components, including springs.

On the exterior, Alpina has added a front lip spoiler and a rear fascia element that covers the black plastic expanse of the standard 3 Series tail. Alpina's signature quad exhaust tip design and wheel patterns were also adopted.

Turning to the interior, BMW's updates to the 3 Series include a new dashboard that eliminates the traditional instrument cluster cowl. Alpina has added its own display to the instrument cluster gauges. It also added its own logo throughout the cabin and a serial numbered plate on the center console.

Pricing for the 2023 B3 starts at 88,600 euros (about $94,690). While there are no plans to sell the car in the U.S., more Alpinas could be sold there in the near future; BMW Group announced in March that it had acquired the Alpina brand name and would begin producing Alpina vehicles at its own plant in 2025. Alpina itself will then focus on vehicle development, service, parts and accessories.
