A rare McLaren Sabre is up for auction.

In 2020, McLaren introduced a limited edition supercar called the Sabre.

At the time, it received little attention due to some sort of pandemic and the fact that only 15 were built exclusively for the US market.

Naturally, all the cars were sold before they were built, but if the Sabre tickles your fancy and your pockets are deep, you could win it at the Mecum auction that will be held in conjunction with Monterey Car Week.

The Sabre being offered here is the 11th of 15 cars and has only 100 miles on it since new. It is finished in silver and bare carbon with orange accents sprinkled throughout the interior.

The Sabre is related to McLaren's Senna supercar, but boasts a unique body and more power. The Sabre delivers 824 hp compared to the Senna's 789 hp, making it McLaren's most powerful road car to date that is not electrified. This power comes from McLaren's familiar twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, which allows the Sabre to reach a top speed of 218 mph.

Sabre customers were heavily involved in the development and were invited to test drive prototypes and provide feedback.

Mecum has not provided an estimate, but it is believed that the Sabre initially cost over $3 million. For reference, a less rare McLaren Speedtail sold for $3.3 million at the January Mecum auction, and another reached a final bid of $2.5 million at the May Mecum auction but did not sell.

Mecum's Monterey auction will run from August 18-20. As noted above, this auction coincides with Monterey Car Week, scheduled for August 12-21.
