MG's electric sports car may be disclosed in the patent drawings.
MG today sells a lineup of crossovers, hatchbacks, and sedans, but the historic British brand is best known for its vivacious roadsters of the 20th century, including the MG TF and the cult classic MGB.
Fortunately, MG, now part of Chinese automaker SAIC, has not forgotten its roots, having introduced two sports car concepts in recent years.
But will a modern MG sports car be produced, Autocar managed to dig up what it claims are patent drawings of an MG sports car planned for 2024.
The car depicted in the drawings is clearly influenced by Cyberstar, and according to Autocar, the next sports car will be electric, just like the concept.
The Cyberstar was claimed to be able to sprint from a standstill to 60 mph in under 3.0 seconds and cover a range of 500 miles on a charge. As with the concept car's styling, the production version's specs are likely to be toned down.
Unfortunately, the car is unlikely to make it to the U.S., given MG's lack of U.S. presence. That does not mean that one cannot purchase an electric MG sports car. A British company is building a replica of the MGB that runs on electricity, with a left-hand drive version in the pipeline.
