Cadillac Project GTP hypercar, aerodynamic design revealed.
Cadillac is preparing to compete in Le Mans again.
On Thursday, the design of the Cadillac Project GTP hypercar race car was digitally unveiled ahead of circuit testing that will begin this summer. While the design has been finalized, the name of the race car has not yet been revealed.
The car's design seems to adhere to both form and function while tracing the past, including vertical fin-like taillights. Front lighting elements are vertical blade-like LEDs reminiscent of Cadillac street cars; aero elements include a massive rear wing connected to blade-like fins and flow-through fender elements that allow air to pass through more efficiently at high speeds. elements that allow air to pass efficiently at high speeds.
According to Cadillac, the car will be powered by a new dual overhead cam 5.5-liter V-8 combined with a generic LMDh hybrid system. System output is mandated not to exceed 670 hp.
Cadillac is developing the car with two existing DPi partner teams, Chip Ganassi Racing and Action Express Racing. If the former team sounds familiar, it's because of Ford's GTE Pro class win story in GT at Le Mans in 2016.
Dallara, one of the four companies supplying chassis for the LMDh class, supplies chassis to Cadillac. According to the rules, the vehicle must weigh at least 1,030 kg (2,270 lbs.).
Cadillacs competing in the Rolex 24 At Daytona in 2023 will run in the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class, the pinnacle of the IMSA sports car championship in 2023 The GTP includes both the new LMDh category and the current Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) category. Cadillac plans to enter the Project GTP hypercar in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Cadillac will face competition from Acura, Alpine, Audi, BMW, and Porsche, as well as Ferrari, Glickenhaus, Peugeot, and Toyota.
