The Mostro Barchetta Zagato Powered by Maserati will debut with either a V8 or V6 turbo engine.

In 2015, Italian coachbuilder Zagato unveiled a V-8-powered grand tourer called Mostro Powered by Maserati. It was built to celebrate Maserati's 100th anniversary and to honor the Maserati 450 S Coupe Zagato race car requested by Stirling Moss in the 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans race. [An open-top version of the Maserati 450 S racing car, closer in design to the Maserati 450 S Coupe Zagato on which the 450 S Coupe Zagato was based, is now available. Called the Mostro Barchetta Zagato Powered by Maserati, it was first unveiled at the 2022 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy in May. Only five units will be built, and the car displayed at Villa d'Este will be the first to be delivered to a customer.

The car is assembled around a unique structure composed of steel and carbon fiber, which is also used for most of the body panels. The coupe was powered by a Maserati 4.7-liter V-8 engine with a maximum output of 414 hp, but buyers of the Barchetta can choose between the V-8 engine and Maserati's new 3.0-liter V-6 twin turbo from the MC20 supercar. V-6 The engine has a maximum output of 621 hp.

This engine is mounted front midship and drives only the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential transmission. This layout helps ensure an ideal 50:50 weight distribution, and the total weight of the open-top vehicle is said to be only 2,645 lbs.

Suspension is push-rod, with double wishbones front and rear. Wheels are 19" with 255/40 front and 295/35 rear sizes. Brakes are AP Racing, 6-piston front and 4-piston rear. We are told there is no traction control. In short, the Mostro Barchetta Zagato Powered by Maserati should live up to the name Mostro, which means "monster" in Italian.

"We were inspired by Sir Stirling Moss' first reaction when he saw the Maserati 450 S Coupe Zagato for the first time, that it was "as beautiful as a monster," said Andrea Zagato, Zagato president, in a statement.
