2023 BMW M3 Touring, the fastest station wagon on the circuit with a lap time of 7 minutes 35 seconds.
The 2023 M3 Touring is only days away from its world debut at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed, but BMW M leaked an important aspect about the car on Friday - a 12.9-mile Nürburgring in 7:35.06 It did a full lap in a time of 7:35.06.
This is the fastest time for a wagon on the Nürburgring; the previous best was 7 minutes 45 seconds, set in 2017 by the Mercedes-Benz AMG E 63S wagon.
While the M3 Touring's time is undoubtedly impressive, it is likely to be even faster, given that the hatchback version of Porsche's 2021 Panamera Sport Turismo can lap the Ring in 7:29.81. Porsche did not specify which version of the Panamera was used for the run, but it is not hard to imagine that it was the fastest Panamera Turbo S.
The M3 Touring is a high-performance wagon based on the updated 2023 BMW 3 Series and will feature an updated dashboard design with a floating screen on the instrument cluster and infotainment hub BMW has confirmed that this model will not be introduced in the U.S., so look for this model in U.S. showrooms.
In other respects, potential buyers can expect the M3 Touring to feature the same specifications as the M3 sedan. This engine produces 473 hp in the standard M3 and 503 hp in the M3 Competition.
Also, the standard M3 will only be available with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, while the M3 Competition will only be offered with an 8-speed automatic and a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive; plans for the M3 Touring are unknown, but it would be quite sad if a manual is not offered.
This is actually the first time BMW M has announced an M3 wagon; BMW's official tuner and motorsports department was on the verge of announcing the M3 Touring as part of the third-generation M3 series 20 years ago, but the project never got beyond the prototype stage
In the United Kingdom, the M3 Touring was launched in 1985.
Look for the M3 Touring to make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the U.K., June 23-26, where BMW will also be showcasing the recently revealed 2023 M4 CSL, the original 3.0 CSL, the M1 Pro Car, the V12 LMR Le Mans winning car, and the new hybrid V8 LMDh, as well as a collection of racing cars.
