Spy shots of the 2024 Porsche 911 GT3: a light upgrade is coming

Porsche's latest 911 GT3 has just been introduced as a 2022 model, but an updated version has been spotted testing.

The update appears to be a mild one, possibly consistent with the planned updates for the full 992-generation range. Prototypes of the updated 911 Carrera and 911 Turbo models have already been spotted, including both new hybrid variants.

We now expect the updated range, referred to internally as the 992.2 generation, to begin appearing next year as 2024 models.

Key to the update is expected to be an improved dash with a fully digital instrument cluster similar to that found on the Taycan.

Judging from this prototype, the specific update for the GT3 will be an improved rear end. The rear fascia appears to be completely concealed and camouflage gear has been added to a portion of the diffuser near the exhaust tips.

It is not clear what Porsche plans to do mechanically, but such updates usually include a slight power increase; the GT3 is currently powered by a 4.0-liter flat-6 that produces 502 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic or 6-speed manual.

Before the updated GT3 arrives, Porsche will launch a more hardcore 911 GT3 RS model; the latest prototype of the GT3 RS has absolutely no camouflage gear, suggesting that its debut is imminent.

While the GT3 is closely related to Porsche's 911 GT3 Cup racing car, the GT3 RS is modeled after the more extreme 911 GT3 R racer. Porsche has also been spotted testing the new GT3 R based on the 992-generation 911, and development of the race car is likely to be closely related to this new GT3 RS.
