Henry Ford's mansion sold for $975,000, the Model T sold separately.

Henry Ford's former Detroit mansion is for sale for $975,000, according to Hall & Hunter real estate listings.

The house, located at 140 Edison Street near Voigt Park in Detroit, was built in 1908. The Ford family later moved to the sprawling Detroit suburb of Fair Lane. Fair Lane remained Henry Ford's residence until his death in 1947 and was later designated a National Historic Landmark.

The four-bedroom, 4.1-bath mansion is 7,623 square feet and sits on four acres. Highlights include hardwood floors, a screened-in terrace, a fireplace, and a study with built-in glass bookshelves.

The house also retains period features such as a servant's quarters on the top floor and a scullery and butler's pantry in the main kitchen (with a second kitchen in the basement).

In addition to the main house, there is a carriage house on the property with additional living space, guest quarters, and garages. Perhaps the new owners will find a Model T to park in these garages.

When the house was built, Ford Motor Company had only been in business for five years. The first five years were turbulent for the company, but the introduction of the Model T would establish Henry Ford as the king of automobiles. With a simplified manufacturing process, Ford was able to produce the Model T in large quantities and sell it cheaply, making it more accessible to the masses. The rest, as they say, is history.
