Jaguar's electric future reportedly starts with a trio of SUVs

Jaguar is barely holding on, with global sales in 2021 down 15.8% from the pandemic-affected previous year to 86,270 units.

In response, the company is preparing a transformation plan that will transform it into a high-end, high-margin electric vehicle provider, with an eye on potentially approaching Aston Martin and Bentley territory.

The first of these new Jaguars will be launched in 2025, and none of the current model lines will continue past that. The concept is rumored to be unveiled in late 2024.

Jaguar has remained tight-lipped about what its future lineup will look like, but Autocar reported Wednesday, citing insiders, that a trio of SUVs will be introduced. The trio will reportedly include two-door and four-door mid-size models, which will be positioned as separate models. Also, according to Autocar, the entry price is likely to be more than 80,000 British pounds (about $97,500).

The common platform, dubbed Panthera, is developed in-house, albeit with partners like Magna and Nvidia. Magna, which produces Jaguar's I-Pace on contract, is helping to develop the powertrain components, while Nvidia, which is currently working with a number of car companies, is helping to develop connectivity and automated driving.

Sadly, there is no information about sports cars. Jaguar's participation in Formula E and the successive launches of the Vision Gran Turismo concept suggest that the idea has not dried up at Jaguar, but before launching a niche model such as a sports car, a solid financial foundation could be planned.
