2023 BMW M3 CS Spy Shots and Video: Hardcore Sedan Coming Soon

BMW's current M3 sedan and its related M4 coupe have only been on the road for a little over a year, but hotter versions of both cars will soon hit showrooms.

The M4 CSL was unveiled in May, but only 1,000 units were produced. Don't worry if you missed out, as some of the car's upgrades will be carried over to the slightly more docile M3 CS, which has been spotted testing, and it appears that an M4 CS is also in the works.

The M3 CS prototype shown here is fitted with elements seen on the M4 CSL. It has an extended lip spoiler on the front and a trunk lid spoiler on the rear. The new grille inserts and the new design of the lower intakes on the front mask are not to be missed, as are the yellow daytime running lights first seen on the M5 CS, which will be available in 2022.

Changes will also be made inside the car: the M3 CS will be based on the updated 3 Series, which will be available for the 2023 model year. This means a new dashboard with floating screens in the instrument cluster and infotainment hub. The center console will also feature a new design, including a gear shift lever.

Power is expected to come from an upgraded 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline 6-cylinder, the same as that found in the M4 CSL. This means that the M3 CS will have 543 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque, 40 hp more than the M3 Competition and the same maximum torque. it is not clear if the M3 CS will be rear-wheel drive only or if all-wheel drive will be an option. An 8-speed automatic transmission should be the only transmission option.

Currently, the M3 CS is expected to go on sale late this year or early next year. Once it arrives, BMW will also sell the M3 Touring, but sadly, this hot wagon will not be available in the US.
