A tribute to the BMW 3.0 CSL is presented by M CEO.
The rumors were true.
BMW is indeed building a 3.0 CSL model as a tribute to the original, and it will be unveiled soon.
The car was confirmed Monday in three teaser images posted on Instagram by BMW M CEO Frank Van Meer.
First revealed, the tribute is based on the M4 CSL, but has unique bodywork that is rumored to be coachbuilt and likely made of carbon fiber to save weight. The teaser video shows a widened front mask, wider front and rear fenders, model-specific front and rear bumpers, rear roof spoiler, and rear decklid spoiler, all despite the wrapped bodywork. The BMW M quad exhaust tips remain, but appear larger than on the standard M model.
The car is part of the M division's 50th anniversary celebration and may be the most expensive car in BMW history.
