Tim Allen's 2000 Cadillac DeVille DTSi is yours!
Tim Allen commissioned several modified cars for his vast car collection. Currently part of the Petersen Automotive Museum collection, this 2000 Cadillac Seville DTSi is for sale at Cars & Bids.
New for the 2000 model year, the 8th generation DeVille was a DeVille Touring Sedan (DTS), but not a performance car. However, the sedan was listed in the sales listing as having been modified by Cadillac and Michigan-based Wheel to Wheel for "Tool Man."
The DeVille was factory powered by Cadillac's 4.6-liter Northstar V-8, which produced 300 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque in stock form. With ported and polished cylinder heads, high compression pistons, and a new intake and exhaust system, output was claimed at 398 hp, but the dyno sheet stated that this could not be confirmed.
The normal four-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive were retained. Cadillac soon returned most of its sedans to rear-wheel drive, paving the way for generations of V-Series performance models.
The DTSi was an inch lower than the stock DTS and fitted with polyurethane bushings, aftermarket front and rear springs, a 30 mm front anti-roll bar, and a front strut tower brace. The front brakes have also been upgraded, with Brembo 4-piston calipers and 14-inch drilled and vented rotors.
Subtle styling changes suggest that this is no ordinary DeVille. The big sedan wears 18-inch Konig wheels, an aluminum grille, carbon fiber side skirts, and a trunk lid insert credited to "Tim Allen Design." The interior is mostly stock, with a few high-tech features that would have been considered state-of-the-art at the turn of the century, such as a heads-up display and night vision.
Currently, the odometer shows only 13,400 miles, and aside from 2013 date-coded tires, a missing Cadillac grille badge, and a few minor cosmetic flaws, the car appears to be in good condition.
The DTSi was not the only modified land yacht Allen commissioned; in a video tour of his car collection published in 2021, a 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS with a C4 Corvette ZR-1 LT5 V-8 clocked 12.9 seconds in the quarter mile. His collection includes everything from a Ford RS200 Group B Rally Homologation Special to a restored 1968 Chevrolet Camaro.
At the time of publication, the high bid was $32,500 with four days left until the auction. With no reserve, the car will likely sell to a Tim Allen fan who appreciates this oddity.
