Donkervoort Finally Brings Wild Circuit Cars to the U.S.

Donkervoort was founded in 1978, but its entry into the US market has only just begun.

The Dutch company has signed a distribution agreement with Bespoke Imports Group and has decided on the D8 GTO Individual Series as its first locally available model.

Prices start at $240,000, and the first units will be available soon at Naples Motorsports in Naples, Florida. Two more units will be available at stores in Colorado and California.

The D8 GTO was unveiled last September as the final road-going version of the D8 GTO line. It is powered by the familiar Audi-designed 2.5-liter inline 5-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces over 400 hp. [The result is a 0-62 mph acceleration of 2.7 seconds. To achieve twice that speed requires only 7.7 seconds. Donkervoortz is also known for its lateral acceleration. It achieves acceleration of up to 2G, and has exceptional cornering ability.

According to Dennis Donckervoort, son of founder Joop Donckervoort and managing director of Donckervoort, inquiries from the US about Donckervoort products, even though they have never been sold in Europe He says it is second only to Europe.

"American supercar enthusiasts can't wait for Donkervoort's cars to arrive, and there is already an incredible amount of interest in the US," he said.

Don't expect to suddenly see Donkervoort on every block. The company has manufactured only about 1,500 cars since its inception and has no plans for rapid expansion.

"We are starting small, but Donkervoort has very big plans in the U.S., and hypercar technology at supercar prices is the perfect recipe for success here," Donkervoort said.
