World record for fastest wheel change in a running car
Apparently, there is a Guinness World Record for the world's fastest wheel change in a running car, and the record was set in Italy earlier this year.
Manuel Zoldan and Gianluca Folco set the record in February with a time of 1 minute 17.64 seconds, and a video recently posted on the Guinness World Records YouTube channel shows the insane method.
One person drives and tilts the car (an E46 BMW 3 Series sedan) on two wheels. The other crawled up onto the hood through the passenger side window and changed wheels. A clamp on the outside of the car held the spare wheel in place, and the wheel used for the change was a small, light donut-shaped spare wheel. To add flair, the two performed the stunt in Evel Knievel-inspired costumes.
Just holding the 3 Series upright seemed difficult enough, but they had to sling lug nuts while driving with two wheels in the air. However, Zoldan and Folco were not the first to attempt this; they needed to beat the previous record of 1 minute 30 seconds.
This is not the only wheel-changing record. The fastest record for changing all four wheels on a stationary car is 49.03 seconds, set by a garage in Vienna in October 2021; race cars and teams are presumably excluded from this record, as F1 teams routinely change all four tires in under 10 seconds.
The record for the fastest wheel change on a spinning car is also a Guinness World Record; the record of 3 minutes and 10 seconds has stood since 2010. We would love to see a video of it.
