2023 Ford Maverick undergoes Tremor Off-Road Treatment

The Ford Maverick compact pickup truck is the latest Blue Oval model to offer the Tremor Off-Road Package.

Ford first offered the Tremor Package on its full-size Super Duty pickups for 2020, then expanded it to the F-150 and Ranger pickups. The package is designed to provide superior off-road performance without compromising drivability, payload capacity, or towing capacity.

For the Maverick, this package is available on the XLT and Lariat grades and includes the turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine available on the pickup, here paired with an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive system. The engine has a maximum output of 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque.

This package builds on the Maverick's standard FX4 off-road package and adds Ford's Trail Control system. Once the speed is set, the system operates the throttle and brakes, allowing the driver to concentrate on steering. Also included are unique springs and shocks that help raise the vehicle's height from 8.6 inches to 9.4 inches, a heavy-duty transmission cooler and upgraded half shafts that further improve durability when off-roading.

Despite these improvements, standard towing and payload capacities remain unchanged at 2,000 and 1,200 pounds, respectively.

The package also comes with several styling tweaks for both the exterior and cabin. These include a unique grille finish, unique 17-inch wheels, orange accents, black badging, and the Tremor logo. The available Tremor Appearance Package adds additional details, including gray paint on the roof and side mirror housings and black side graphics on the hood and lower body.

The Maverick is a new addition to the Ford lineup for 2022; the 2023 model will be available for order starting in September and will continue to offer a 2.5-liter inline-4 hybrid setup as the base powertrain, sent to the front wheels via an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission It delivers a total output of 191 hp and a maximum torque of 155 lb-ft.

Ford has not announced starting prices for the 2023 Maverick, but says the Tremor Off-Road Package will cost $2,995 and the Tremor Appearance Package will cost $1,495. 2022 Maverick prices, including destination starting at $21,490.

More Maverick variants may be added in the near future. One possibility is a more affordable off-road option known as the Rattler Package, which Ford already offers on the F-150. Plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle options may also be on the horizon.
