2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLB 35 Spy Shot: mid-cycle update

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GLB 35 is due for an update, as evidenced by the recent sighting of a camouflaged prototype vehicle.

Mercedes is updating its entire compact range, starting with the A-Class.

The GLB Class update will appear in late 2023, possibly as a 2024 model; the AMG versions (GLB 35 and GLB 45) are expected to arrive around the same time.

We have previously seen prototypes of the updated GLB-Class, and a prototype of the range-topping GLB 45 should also appear.

The GLB 35 prototype is only lightly camouflaged and makes sense as an update. The front grille and fascia have been changed, and the interior of the lights at both ends appear to have been tweaked.

The interior cannot be confirmed, but mild tweaks are expected here as well. In addition to a newly designed steering wheel, the current model's trackpad may be replaced by a center console with simpler controls.

It is not clear what AMG has planned for the powertrain, but a power upgrade is a possibility: the GLB 35 is currently powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 with a maximum output of 302 hp. This updated version could feature a mild hybrid setup or the F1-style electric turbocharger already introduced in AMG's latest C 43. The C 43's 2.0-liter engine produces 402 hp, and the same engine is available in the GLB 45, including AMG's 45 series, might be boosted to 442 hp.

The rest of the GLB 35 package means a standard 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, all-wheel drive with up to 50:50 torque distribution, which should remain the same after the update.
