Description: 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 exhaust
The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has a clever intake system to maximize airflow, but as this instructional video from Chevrolet shows, engineers did not ignore the exhaust.
Thanks to its flat-plane crank and high revs, the Z06's LT6 5.5-liter V-8 sounds unlike any previous Chevy V-8. The engineers wanted to show off its unique sound.
To that end, the bezel that houses the Z06's quad exhaust tips was designed to reflect some of the sound back toward the cockpit for maximum effect. The sound can be modulated by two valves, one in the intake manifold and one in the exhaust.
The active exhaust system is nothing new, but the Z06 system allows the valves to be adjusted in 2-degree increments, whereas previous systems could only switch from fully open to fully closed. This allows the Z06 to be tuned for each of the four driving modes (Weather, Tour, Sport, and Track).
Weather is the quietest mode, keeping the valves closed most of the time. It's a "don't bother the neighbors" mode; Tour keeps the valves open a bit while maintaining everyday civility; Sport is designed to be a bit more step-down and Track to be louder. Chevrolet also included a My Mode for custom settings.
In addition to providing a brilliant soundtrack, this exhaust system helps the LT6 V-8 produce 670 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque without forced induction The Z06 is at the same Bowling Green, Kentucky plant as the other Corvette models, Production is expected to begin later this summer. Both coupe and convertible body styles will be available, with prices starting at $106,395 and $113,895, respectively.
