2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Spy Shots and Video: Hot EVs Hit the Ring

The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car, a mix of hatchback and crossover, just hit dealerships at the beginning of the year, but Hyundai is already nearing the launch of an even hotter version.

The latest spy shots and video show a prototype of the Ioniq 5 tuned by the Hyundai N Performance division.

Compared to the regular model, the Ioniq 5 N prototype features a new fascia, possible front splitter, lowered suspension, wider track, lower profile tires, and new wheel designs. Spy Cameraman noted that the brakes have also been upgraded to larger calipers and rotors than the production model. Testers also appear to be on a stiffer suspension showing new shocks and springs.

The Ioniq 5 N rides on the same skateboard-style EV-specific E-GMP platform as the regular Ioniq 5. Regular models are available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with either a single rear motor or a combination of front and rear motors, the latter being optimal for the Ioniq 5 N in combination with the Ioniq 5's largest battery (in this case a 77.4 kwh unit).

As for how much power, the related 2023 Kia EV6 GT gives a hint: the EV6's range-topping "GT" grade delivers 576 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque and accelerates from 0-60 mph in under 3.5 seconds. The regular Ioniq 5 has a maximum output of 320 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque.

The Ioniq 5 N is expected to arrive at dealerships late this year or early next year as a 2023 model. Kia's EV6 GT is confirmed to arrive at dealers in the fourth quarter.
