Ferrari F1 car to adopt yellow for the 2022 Italian GP?

Contrary to popular belief, Enzo Ferrari did not always intend his racing cars to be red.

When he first founded the Scuderia Ferrari racing team, he chose yellow as his signature color. This vibrant shade, along with blue, is prominently featured on the coat of arms of Modena, his birthplace and home of the Ferrari company.

However, around the time the racing team was founded, the International Federation of Automobile Clubs set red as the official color for Italian racing cars, and Ferrari followed suit, choosing red for its racing cars, which were initially Alfa Romeos. Scuderia Ferrari was founded in 1929, long before the Ferrari company was founded in 1947.

Ferrari used yellow for the Scuderia Ferrari logo. At the request of the family of Italian war hero Francesco Baracca, it was combined with the famous Cavallino prancing horse. The logo was painted on Scuderia Ferrari's Alfa Romeo in the 1932 Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race, won by Ferrari drivers Antonio Brivio and Eugenio Siena. Since then, the logo has appeared on Ferrari cars.

To commemorate the Monza circuit's 100th anniversary this year and its connection to yellow, Ferrari's Formula 1 team will use yellow at this weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The color will be featured on the cars as well as on the racing suits and helmets of drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Ferrari will also sell a special collection of merchandise in the same shade of yellow, called Giallo Modena, in its official boutiques and online store.
