Redesigned Maserati GranTurismo, Modena and Trofeo to feature V6?

While Maserati's redesigned GranTurismo is almost ready for its official debut later this year, the Italian automaker has recently begun offering a sneak peak of its new grand touring coupe.

In early September, Maserati released a video introducing the new electric version of the GranTurismo Folgore, confirming some of the car's performance specs.

On Wednesday, Maserati unveiled two additional versions, the GranTurismo Modena and GranTurismo Trofeo, and confirmed that they will be powered by the same twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 engine as the Maserati MC20. This engine delivers 621 hp and 538 lb-ft of torque in the supercar and should deliver similar figures in the new GranTurismo.

The car was unveiled with the Maserati trident logo and the word "75th." The letters are a reference to the 75th anniversary this year of the Maserati A6 1500, which Maserati hails as the pioneer of the Grand Tourer class.

The electric Folgore is powered by three motors, one on the front axle and two in the rear, with a combined output of over 1,200 hp. 0-60 mph acceleration is 2.6 seconds and top speed is over 200 mph.

Maserati has not revealed battery details, but an 800-volt electrical system with inverters similar to those used in Formula E, the electric racing series Maserati will compete in starting in 2023, allows for a 10-minute charge when using a DC fast charger. The company states that it can add 100 miles of range.

Maserati, like most major automakers, is committed to the future of EVs. Maserati has already announced an electric Folgore version of its new 2023 Grecale crossover, and has decided to offer an electric version of the MC20. A redesigned GranTurismo Convertible (GranCabrio in other markets) should also be announced eventually, and it will probably be a Folgore version.

Further down the road, Maserati will unveil redesigned versions of the Quattroporte and Levante. Maserati has confirmed that the Ghibli will not appear again, at least not in its current form.
