Jeep Celebrates 30th Anniversary of Grand Cherokee with Anniversary Package for 4xe Plug-in Hybrid

It's been 30 years and five generations since the original Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Bob Lutz, made its debut at the 1992 Detroit Auto Show.

At this year's show, which begins Wednesday and runs through September 25, Jeep commemorated this milestone by unveiling a special 30th anniversary package for the 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid.

The package adds black body accents, black 20-inch wheels, unique badging, and styling treatments such as a body-color-matched rear fascia, lower moldings, rocker panels, and fender flares. Also, dual-tip exhaust, dual-pane sunroof, Capri leather trim, cooled front seats, 9-speaker Alpine audio system, wireless charging pad for mobile devices, digital rearview mirror, surround view camera system, and parking sensors, 10.1-inch infotainment screen with 3D graphics for navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, and other additional features.

The Grand Cherokee 4xe's powertrain consists of a 2.0-liter turbo four and electric motor up front, plus a second electric motor integrated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This system delivers 375 hp peak power, 470 lb-ft maximum torque, 25 miles of pure electric range, and 6,000 lb maximum towing capacity. It also comes standard with a two-speed transfer case, a 2.72:1 low-speed gear ratio, and a 47.4:1 crawl ratio.

Orders for the 2023 Grand Cherokee with the 30th Anniversary Package will be accepted later this year, with deliveries beginning in early 2023. The package will be available for a limited time and is priced at $4,700. Jeep has not announced pricing for the 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe, but the current 2022 model starts at $59,495 including a $1,795 destination charge.

Production of the Grand Cherokee will take place at the Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, while the stretched Grand Cherokee L will be built at the adjacent Mack Avenue Assembly Plant. More than 7 million of these nameplates have been manufactured over the past 30 years.
