2024 Maserati GranTurismo Convertible Spy Shot

Maserati unveiled the new generation GranTurismo in early October, and now a convertible body style of the car has been spotted being tested as a prototype.

The convertible version of the new GranTurismo, known as the GranCabrio in some markets, is confirmed for release in 2023. The coupe will go on sale next spring, also likely to be a 2024 model.

In prototype form, the convertible will feature a soft-top roof, as did its predecessor. The profile of the roof and the shape of the side windows appear to be almost identical to the previous generation model.

Like the coupe, the convertible should be available in Modena, Trofeo, and Folgore grades. Modena is the most luxurious and lifestyle-oriented option, while Trofeo is for sportier types. Folgore is an electric option, named for the Italian word for "lightning bolt."

In the coupe, the Modena and Trofeo grades are powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 shared with Maserati's MC20 supercar. The Maserati-designed V-6 engine delivers 490 hp in the Modena and 550 hp in the Trofeo. Both are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The Folgore has a three-motor powertrain (one in the front and two in the rear) that produces a total of 760 hp and also features all-wheel drive. Powering the motors is a 92.5 kwh battery, and Maserati says the range is competitive; expect 250 to 300 miles under EPA regulations. 800-volt architecture means fast charging is possible.

The new GranTurismo convertible should have the same or similar specs.

With the introduction of the new GranTurismo convertible, Maserati will have two open-top models in its lineup. The other is the MC20 Cielo with a retractable glass roof.
