1968 Dodge Charger with Herefant Power Comes to Auction

If you've ever wanted to own a muscle car powered by Dodge's 1,000-horsepower Helfant crate engine, now is your chance. The 1968 Dodge Charger with the Helfant engine, named Dumbo, will be offered at the Mecum auction in Las Vegas from November 10-12.

This supercharged 7.0-liter V-8 engine was unveiled at the 2018 SEMA Show and released as a crate motor in 2019. The first production run sold out quickly, so now it would be easy to get a Helfant if this engine is already in someone's build.

Based on Hellcat's supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine, the Hellfant produces 950 lb-ft of torque in addition to the aforementioned 1,000 hp. The name, a combination of the Hellcat's "Hell" and the original 426 Hemi's nickname, "Elephant," coincidentally matches the new engine's displacement in cubic inches.

With the improved Charger, the Hellfant is connected to a 6-speed manual transmission and a 4:10.1 rear end. The Charger also features upgraded suspension and brakes and a custom exhaust system.

Painted in Destroyer Gray with a gray interior, the car sports elephant graphics and badging in the style of the Dodge Hellcat logo, LED headlights and taillights, Rushforth alloy wheels, Ring Brothers billet door handles and subtle modern touches such as.

This isn't the only Charger with a Herlephant engine. Wisconsin-based SpeedKore Performance Group stuffed a Hellrefant into a 1970 Charger for comedian Kevin Hart and Stellantis design boss Ralph Gilles. They also built a 1968 Charger with a Hellfantt engine named Hellucination. Both Chargers feature SpeedKore's signature carbon fiber body and custom frame.
