Mercedes-Benz is working on an update to the V-Class, the premium version of its Metris van sold in the U.S.

A prototype spotted in the wild hints at a mildly updated form of the midsize van expected to be launched in late 2023 hinting at tweaks to the styling.

The updated V-Class appears to feature modified headlights and a new grille and front mask combination. The taillights are also expected to be slightly tweaked, and the cabin should feature Mercedes' latest infotainment system.

It is not clear what is planned for the powertrain. Buyers can currently choose from a range of diesels, including four- and six-cylinder options.

No updates to the Metris are expected. Mercedes is expected to discontinue the Metris when the V-Class is updated next year. However, the Vito, a version of the Metris sold outside the U.S., may get an update.

The EQV, an electric version of the V-Class that will also be sold outside the U.S., is also expected to receive an update. A prototype of the updated EQV is also currently undergoing public testing.

The V-Class was introduced in 2014 as the successor to the R-Class minivan, which had been withdrawn the previous year (but was sold in China until 2017); for 2019, it received an update that included new powertrain options and a more premium cabin.

Stay tuned for updates as development continues.
