Spy shot of 2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLS 63

Mercedes-Benz is working on a mid-cycle refresh of its full-size GLS-Class SUV, and the latest prototypes spotted are for the fiery AMG versions, specifically the AMG GLS 63.

Earlier shots show prototypes of updated versions of the regular GLS-Class and the ultra-luxury Maybach GLS-Class.

The current generation GLS-Class was introduced in 2019 as a 2020 model, followed a year later by the AMG GLS 63 version. In Mercedes tradition, this mid-cycle refresh should be introduced for the 2024 model year, meaning the updated range will likely debut later this year.

The GLS 63 prototype will have only light camouflage and only minor visual tweaks. There is a revised front mask combined with new internals for the lights on both ends.

There are no interior shots, but according to the photographer a new design for the infotainment screen and steering wheel is planned.

We should also see updated user interface graphics and new driver-assist features designed for off-roading and trailering, similar to those seen on Mercedes' updated 2024 GLE-Class unveiled in January.

The powertrain remains unchanged. The current GLS 63 combines a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 with a mild hybrid system. It delivers a maximum output of 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque.

Mercedes plans to focus on its top-of-the-line models, including the GLS-Class, for the next few years. Buyers can expect more personalization options and possibly limited edition models.
