The new generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be launched later this year as a 2024 model, and once again AMG will build a performance version.

A prototype of AMG's redesigned E 53 sedan has been spotted previously, and now shots of the car's wagon body style have been released The E 53 should debut late this year or early next year.

The current E 53 wagon was not sold in the U.S., but the more powerful E 63 S wagon was.

We know this prototype is for the E 53 wagon because of the performance wheel and tire combination, large brakes, and four round exhaust tips The E 63 should also have four exhaust tips, but they are square in shape.

Under the hood, there should be a turbo four with the help of electrification. Yes, the E 53 will lose two cylinders with this makeover, and it is rumored that the E 63 may be downsized from the current model's V-8 to just four cylinders.

Despite the reduced number of cylinders, the electrification should improve the performance of both AMG models. The current E 53 has 429 hp from a 3.0-liter turbo six and mild hybrid setup. Expect the new E 53 to produce closer to 500 hp.

As for the new E 63, a turbo four and mild hybrid setup is rumored to be coming with a rear-mounted electric motor. This same setup will also be used in the recently unveiled 2024 C 63 S E Performance, which will produce a maximum output of 671 hp. The current E 63 is powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine that delivers 603 hp.

The new E-Class platform is an updated version of Mercedes' MRA rear-wheel-drive architecture, which debuted in the 2021 S-Class and was also used in the 2022 C-Class. The updated platform benefits from weight savings, primarily through increased use of aluminum over steel.

New digital content will also be added to the cabin. The new E-Class will feature up to three screens on the dashboard. In addition to the usual instrument cluster and infotainment screen, there will be a third screen for the passenger. According to Mercedes, the system will support third-party apps such as Angry Birds and TikTok.

Stay tuned for updates as development progresses.
