2025 VW Tiguan, Toyota's EV Strategy: Automotive News Headlines

A prototype of the redesigned Volkswagen Tiguan was spotted during cold weather testing. The new compact crossover, which is expected to debut later this year, will eventually include an electric variant.

Under the new CEO, Toyota plans to step up its commitment to battery-electric vehicles, targeting annual EV production of 1.5 million units as early as 2026. However, Toyota does not intend to give up on other solutions to reduce carbon emissions and will continue to offer plug-in hybrids and hydrogen-electric vehicles as well.

Mercedes-Benz partnered with Zhejiang Geely several years ago to establish a Chinese joint venture company to oversee the Smart light car brand. The first of the new smarts was unveiled last year, and the second will be unveiled at the 2023 Shanghai Motor Show later this month. It will be a coupe-like crossover.
