2025 Lotus Envia (Type 133) Spy Shot

Lotus was spotted testing a prototype of its next electric sedan.

The sedan, codenamed Type 133, has been confirmed for 2021 along with three other EVs. These include the Eletre mid-size SUV, which debuted last year, a compact crossover (codenamed Type 134), and a sports car (codenamed Type 135).

The sedan will be unveiled later this year. The compact crossover is scheduled for 2025 and the sports car for 2026. The sports car is expected to be the spiritual successor to the Elise, whose suspension will be used in future sports cars from Alpine of France.

Lotus has decided to sell the Elise SUV in the U.S. in 2024, but has made no mention of other models being sold in the U.S. If the sedan is allowed to go on sale in the U.S., it is likely that the sedan will also be available in 2024 as a 2025 model.

The sedan features a familiar coupe-like form and design elements borrowed from the Eletere, with the SUV's triangular active shutters positioned in the central intake of the front mask. Like the Eleuthero, the sedan is equipped with cameras in place of traditional side mirrors, although this option may not be available on vehicles sold in the U.S.

. The sedan will probably be supported by the same EV-specific "Electric Premium Architecture" platform as the Eletere; for the SUV, this platform will be combined with up to 905 hp and 112 kwh battery capacity, dual-motor all-wheel drive, air suspension and support charging at 350 kwh. Similar characteristics are expected for the sedan.

Development of the sedan, along with the Eletre and the upcoming compact crossover, is being handled by Lotus Technology, the division of Lotus responsible for non-sports car models. Lotus Technology will also be responsible for production at the plant in Wuhan, China. In February, the division announced plans to go public through a SPAC transaction with Nasdaq-listed L Catterton Asia Acquisition Corp.
