Koenigsegg Regera breaks 0-249-0 mph record in 28.8 seconds

Although no longer in production, the Koenigsegg Regera has broken the 0-249-0 mph record in 28.8 seconds.

The Swedish supercar beat the Rimac Nevella, which set a 29.9-second time in a test session in which the electric supercar set 23 new performance records.

Before Rimac set this record, Koenigsegg had nearly dominated. Koenigsegg set a 0-249-0 mph record of 36.4 seconds in 2017 with the Agera RS and broke that record in 2019 with the Regera.

In a press release announcing the new record, Koenigsegg said that the change to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires made the Regera faster than it was four years ago and allowed it to break the record on the runway at Örebro Airport, west of Sweden's capital Stockholm He stated. The runway was also smoother than the surface used in previous tests, which Koenigsegg said also contributed to the time improvement.

Unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the Regera is powered by a 5.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine and three electric motors, which together produce 1,500 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque. This power is delivered to the rear wheels through Koenigsegg's Direct Drive system. The direct drive system uses a hydraulic coupling and single-speed reduction gear instead of a conventional transmission, an approach Koenigsegg has deemed more efficient.

Koenigsegg built 80 customer cars, the first of which were delivered in 2018. Production ended in 2022. Koenigsegg is currently focused on getting the first model of the Jesco supercar, which also boasts a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 but without a hybrid system, into customer hands. The Jesco produces 1,280 horsepower and revs to 8,500 rpm. However, no record attempts have been discussed.
