Electrification of the Porsche Cayenne with over 690 hp reportedly in the works
When Porsche unveiled the latest 2024 Cayenne model at the April 2023 Shanghai Motor Show, the lack of the Turbo S E-Hybrid grade, which delivers 680 hp peak power in the current model was conspicuous.
Instead, the range-topper was the Turbo GT, offered only in the Cayenne Coupe body style, with a peak output of 650 hp.
YouTube channel ThomasGeigerCar (via Motor1) reported Wednesday that a successor to the Turbo S E-Hybrid is planned. It is not clear if this new car will reach the US, where the Turbo GT is set to be introduced. [ThomasGeigerCar reports that the successor, like the Turbo GT, will have the body style of the Cayenne coupe and will produce more than 690 horsepower from a 4.0-liter V-8 engine and electric motor combination, reaching a top speed of more than 186 mph.
It also reportedly has a pure electric range of 62 miles (under the WLTP test cycle used in the EU). This should be higher than the current Turbo S E-Hybrid's measly 15 miles, as measured by the EPA.
A version of this powertrain will no doubt also be available in the plug-in hybrid Lamborghini Urus, due in early 2024.
The 2024 Cayenne can be ordered now. Deliveries will begin later this summer.
The changes will help keep the popular mid-size SUV fresh until the fourth-generation electric Cayenne arrives around 2026.
