2024 Acura ZDX to Debut at Monterey Car Week 2023

Acura will use this month's 2023 Monterey Car Week as the stage for the debut of its first electric vehicle, the 2024 ZDX midsize SUV.

The annual California event is also where Acura first previewed the ZDX a year ago with the Precision EV Concept.

The production model will be taken off the cover on August 17, Acura said Thursday. Both the regular ZDX and the sporty ZDX Type S are planned.

Acura has offered a glimpse of the ZDX in a teaser video, and spy shots of the prototype leave little to the imagination.

Underpinning the ZDX is General Motors' Ultium platform and battery technology set; GM will also build the ZDX for Acura; GM has a similar deal with Honda for the 2024 Prologue electric SUV.

Acura has not mentioned powertrain specs, but the ZDX should offer similar performance to the Ultium-based Cadillac Lyric, which will share the Spring Hill, Tennessee plant with the ZDX. That means buyers can expect roughly 100 kwh of battery capacity and about 340 hp from a single electric motor; the ZDX Type S is expected to feature all-wheel drive with dual motors. Range should start around 300 miles.

Acura has confirmed that the ZDX will have Google apps and services and Bang & Olufsen audio built in. For the interior, Acura will likely use a single panel that integrates both the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment screen. The same design is used in the Precision EV concept.

The ZDX will also be sold exclusively online, as Acura plans to do with all future EVs; the shift to EVs has caused other automakers to rethink how they sell their vehicles, but most of them are not moving to online sales, but are rather reorganizing existing franchise and dealerships are planning to reorganize.
