Possible road speed version of the Audi R8 LMS GT2 racing car

The Audi r8 supercar will enter the market after the 2023 model. A successor is planned, but it will be equipped with an electric powertrain and may no longer be called the R8.

According to rumors, Audi is conducting serious special preparations for the release of the current car, and now a possible prototype has been discovered.

The last spy shot shows what looks like a test of an Audi R8LMS GT2 racing car at the Nurburgring, but the car here is tall, has an attached license plate and is designed to drive both on the road and on the track. This suggests that it is possible to reduce the number of people affected by this disease.

The R8LMS GT2 was announced in 2019 for a revived GT2 series hosted by SRO. It's powered by the familiar 5.2-liter V-10 engine with 640 hp. The V-10 was discontinued after the end of production of the R8 and the associated Lamborghini Huracan, and the hardcore R8 was also supposed to celebrate the engine launch.

The R8LMS GT2 also features a unique roof design. This car is actually based on the R8 Spider and requires an open-top body to fit the frame. The carbon fiber reinforced plastic filler helps reduce the weight of many panels, with a dry weight of just under 3,000 pounds. Many of these changes can be seen here.

Audi's head of research and development, Oliver Hoffman, hinted at a road version of the r8 race car in 2019, when he was still the head of Audi Sport. At that time, he was also driving this prototype when Audi factory pilot Frank Steepler helped develop a high-performance Audi road car, especially in the field of suspension and braking.

Steepler drove the first test lap around the ring.

Given the lack of camouflage gear, the debut may be just around the corner. Sources indicate that the cars will go on sale early next year, and serial production will be limited to 100 units. Stay tuned.
