Preview of the Infiniti Vision Qe concept - the first in the history of the brand

Infiniti has been hinting at electric cars for years, but it looks like it's finally happened.

The automaker unveiled the Vision Qe concept, a fast rear hatchback, on Tuesday for an EV preview to be unveiled in its first showroom. It is also planned to release an analogue of the Vision QXe concept crossover, which will be presented separately.

Vision Qe represents the latest evolution of Infiniti's artistic motion design language, and the light strip that Infiniti uses to distinguish electric models has a motif that Infiniti calls the "digital piano keys" backlight, and the sequence flashes when the driver approaches.

Details about the Vision Qe power unit are not disclosed.

The release dates of the serial version were also not disclosed, but the information detailed at the dealers' meeting last summer indicates the start of sales in 2026. It is expected that the electric hatchback will fill in the gaps in the line of mid-size Q70 sedans of 2019 and beyond. According to information from the same dealer meeting, the release of the crossover analog is scheduled for 2027.

Both electric vehicles were introduced in 2022, which was confirmed by Infiniti for production at the Nissan plant in Canton, Mississippi. The corresponding Nissan models will also be produced at the factory.

Infiniti has been promising electric cars since 2009, and the automaker first introduced them in 2012 by introducing the Le Concept, a compact sedan based on the original Nissan Leaf platform. Following the termination of LE plans, the automaker committed to developing an expanded line of electric vehicles before moving to conventional battery-powered electric vehicles.

Infiniti announced Vision Qe at an event in Tokyo, and the automaker confirmed three additional models. Among them were a redesigned Q80, a coupe-like crossover called the qx65, and an electric crossover introduced by the Vision QXe concept.
