Hyundai Ioniq 5 NPX1 Concept Teases Performance Parts for EVs

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, now available as a 2024 model, performs well right out of the box. But Hyundai and its N division are planning a variety of performance and styling upgrades, some of which are previewed in a concept that will debut this weekend at the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon.

Called the Ioniq 5 NPX1, the concept is outfitted with a variety of parts, some of which will soon be available through the N Performance Parts catalog.

Parts for the concept include carbon fiber aerodynamic elements such as front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, and rear wing. Also featured are lower springs, high-performance brake pads, and so-called hybrid wheels with carbon fiber rims and metal spokes and hubs.

Hyundai has not disclosed interior parts either, but they are there. It is said to include racing bucket seats and Alcantara trim.

Hyundai said it is also considering offering software upgrades for the N cars.

Jun Park, who heads the N division, said in a statement that software customizations for sound and vehicle calibration, offered as Over-the-Air updates, are being developed.

Hyundai said N performance parts will be available for the Ioniq 5 N and other N models later this year.

The Ioniq 5 N has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. In standard configuration, maximum output is 600 hp, but can be temporarily increased to 641 hp; 0-60 mph acceleration is about 3.3 seconds and top speed is 162 mph.
