Cadillac Unveils Opulent Velocity, a Performance EV Concept

Cadillac's future is electric, but that doesn't mean it plans to give up on performance vehicles like its sub-brand V-Series.

Cadillac plans to give us a taste of what future performance EVs could offer with a concept car called Opulent Velocity, a teaser video of which was released Wednesday.

While the teaser video reveals few details, the concept's name points to a fusion of luxury and performance, rather than focusing on just one area. It is where Cadillac believes performance will be offered in the future.

Cadillac has not said when it will unveil the Opulent Velocity Concept, but has said that more details will be released later in the year.

Currently, Cadillac's most powerful V-Series model is the CT5-V Blackwing, which spits out 668 horsepower from a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8. However, Cadillac's electric vehicle offerings have the potential to deliver even more horsepower. Cadillac's first EVs are based on General Motors' Ultium platform and battery technology set, and some models, such as the GMC Hummer EV, can produce up to 1,000 horsepower.

The concept's launch comes 20 years after the Cadillac V-Series race car, the CTS-V.R, won its first victory as a sub-brand. The race was the March 2004 Sebring round of the SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge GT, and Cadillac will be back at Sebring this weekend for the latest round of the IMSA Sports Car Championship.
