2026 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC EV is unveiled for the first time

Mercedes-Benz is testing a prototype of an electric compact crossover that will be part of the GLC-Class family.

The car will serve as the spiritual successor to Mercedes' ill-fated debut of the EQC, a production EV, but will also likely cover the segment following the end of production of the EQE, a similar SUV.

The latest spy shots show a prototype of the new GLC-Class EV, albeit a high-performance version under development by AMG. This prototype was spotted testing alongside AMG's current version of the EQE SUV.

Compared to previous prototypes of the regular GLC-Class EV, the AMG version features wider intakes in the front mask, wider tracks, a larger brake package with cross-drilled rotors, and AMG-spec wheels. According to the photographer, the AMG also has a lower suspension.

The platform for the GLC-Class EV appears to be Mercedes' MMA platform, designed primarily for EVs but also for hybrid vehicles. This platform is used for vehicles in the compact segment. On top of this, Mercedes has the MB.EA platform for mid-size and full-size models, the AMG.EA platform for AMG's high-performance models, and the Van.EA platform for light commercial vehicles.

The regular GLC-class EV is expected to debut in 2025 as a model for the 2026 U.S. market; the AMG version should appear at about the same time.

Along with the GLC-Class EV, Mercedes is also developing a C-Class EV, which should have its own AMG variant.

A smaller CLA-Class with electric and hybrid powertrains is also being tested ahead of its debut next year, as well as an electric AMG variant. AMG is also testing a prototype of an electric-only EV to replace the current GT 4-door coupe. AMG.EA platform, which is also expected to appear next year.
